Protecting Employers Since 1985
August 2014
By: Anthony J. Caruso, Esq.
In our Illinois Client Update for June, 2014, Walter J. Liszka of our law firm, wrote in detail about the proposed legislation in Illinois that would prohibit criminal background screening of an applicant for employment until the applicant is selected for an interview or a conditional offer of employment is made.
As expected, on July 19, 2014, Illinois Governor Pat Quinn signed the new law effective January 1, 2015.
WARNING: as such, Illinois employers MUST DELETE the criminal history on the employment application on or before January 1, 2015.
If you have any questions or concerns about this topic or any other questions related to employment, please call attorney Anthony J. Caruso of Wessels Sherman’s St. Charles, Illinois office at (630) 377-1554.
